Thank you for this message today! I'm a volunteer campaign manager for a 24-year-old woman running in a contested primary against an old white man who thinks she should "wait her turn" and other horrifying, misogynistic statements he's made. The bullying tactics he uses has only fortified her campaign, and rallied people around her, and yet he continues to behave unbelievably poorly. He's loosing, and rather than focus on his campaign, he is recruiting other white men to bully people too. He plays the victim every time. I'm equal parts pissed off and highly amused by him and look forward to my candidate thoroughly crushing him in June.
I’m newish to Substack. I took a course with someone I like and respect who mentioned coaching one of their clients (who I also like and respect) and how they worked together so that the client could spend less effort posting ‘only’ three times a week. ‘That’s too many times,’ I wanted to shout from the Zoom chat. I like that Substack lets us engage in more long form blogging and commenting. And I think it’s fine to not hold a very tight schedule around it. If everyone posted long things all the time, there’s no way we could read all of it!
Also thanks for sharing your thoughts on HRC and what it was like to be in the room with her. 💖🙌💪
Yes! We ARE winning! And I think “that guy’s” name is Buttface , or Butthead, something like that. He talks out of his butt, it’s really something to see. Quite a trick worthy of a standing ovation. It’s called “buttspeak”. No, really.
I think we are only just touching the surface of women's issues. To my mind women are horizontal and men vertical. Men don't have the range that women have in regard to nurturing (whether they are mothers or not) nor the connection with nature. Why is the earth called Mother Earth? We menstruate; we are part of the cycle of nature. Men don't know what to do with themselves, and I think women do, if given a chance. It's a deeply patriarchal world and women are forced to act like men. Hillary C being a great example.
Im curious what you mean by vertical versus horizontal. The way I see it, The more power & privilege you have, the more luxury you have to be dimensional. I have a hard time with women being more nurturing because that is often used as an excuse for women to stay home. I worry the line of thinking that women can hold and take more (though I agree) treats men as fragile and abdicates their responsibilty. Just because we hold it doesn’t mean it’s not heavy.
I like "just because we hold it doesn't mean it's not heavy". True. And it's true the more power and privilege you have the more luxury you have to be dimensional. However, most people who have power and privilege are complacent and narrow in my opinion. Also the issue of women staying home or not is never going to go away unless some sort of spiritual dimension is in the mix. By that I mean inner freedom a kind of inner freedom that a meditation practice might bring. And, anyway, why is staying home given such a bad name. Maybe a person who stays home can practice an art or play an instrument or read literature and generally enrich his or her life. The word nurturing does have a bad name because it mean "being good", and that's a big burden and an oppressive curse. By saying "being good" I mean virtuous (being woke, for instance. That is a kind of puritanism that is part of the protestant culture in the USA.
There needs to be a spiritual element as a perspective to all this. By "spiritual" I mean that we are all part of the universe. and not the sum of our conditioning or how society has labeled us.
The Mom's Summit looks great and it's encouraging to see high profile women banding together like that. Wish I knew it was happening! (was it invite only?)
It was invite only for this first one. But you can watch the replay on the website (linked in post). Not sure what the plan is for future, but hopefully open to more folks!!

A comment on footnote 1. We aren’t keeping track!

Great! I feel like we need more opportunities for the ladies to get together and plot our takeover! :)
