I loved this post so much. I have three kids (10, 9 and 4) and the two older ones are at sleepaway camp right now. I have so much guilt about how much I am relishing the quiet in my house and the freedom that has come with them being away. It’s a complicated feeling, and reading this reminded me that it’s ok to celebrate myself as a person in my own right. Beautiful post, thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much, Bridget! I appreciate you sharing how what I wrote about here applies to your own life and self celebration. Enjoy your quiet time for self!
Couldn’t agree more! At 40 I’m single and childfree and happier than I’ve ever been. I also don’t take for granted that this was not an option for women for a long time! I’ve traveled to 50 countries and built a life for myself that is mine
As with so many things, this post is both inspiring and almost discouraging. Not all of us have had a job where we made enough money that we could afford to quit and try something new. The trek around the world sound awesome and I'm sur many readers would love to do something like that but we are forces by circumstances to be content with a trek around the block. So we need to take what we can from the post....allow yourself to be you whenever you can and even if you can't reconnect in person with your heritage there is a lot you can do on the internet and a lot you actually can enjoy (and maybe notice for the first time) on that trek around the block!
That's great wisdom Pat, the same wisdom I follow in my own daily life — gratitude, gifting yourself small joys, making time for what matters each day. Thank you for sharing.

Bridget I’m so happy to hear this! Enjoy your time. You are allowed to have it. ♥️

Love to hear it Valerie! I hope to make it to 50 countries someday; I'll be adding at least one more this fall!
