I’m disappointed in your attendance at SXSW. Some of the main sponsors of the event were weapons manufacturers such as Raytheon. A couple of bands actually canceled their events at SXSW in protest against the ongoing genocide of Palestinians by the Israeli regime aided by the military industrial complex in the US and the Western world in general.

Hi there. I appreciate you writing. As someone who is trying to put her work out in the world in the face of a completely broken and decimated media environment / toxic algorithms / a gig economy that exploits creators, I’m constantly making difficult decisions about where to put my work so that it can reach the people who need it, and who may be open to engaging with it.

For example, I’ve decided to stay on SS (for now) despite the problems that have surfaced here (not new) because I don’t have the resources (financial , support wise) to make a switch this year.

I think of the SXSW issue similarly — no option is perfect. I don’t think anyone wins when everyone retracts into their bubbles. As a woman of color, child of immigrants from India, I am living under the imperialist socioeconomic factors that are the root of any number of global atrocities right now. I had to choose a path and I understand not everyone will agree with it, but a big part of my goal is to provide a space for respectful conversation and expression and for folks who engage with my work to feel connected enough (and safe enough) to tell me what they really think. Appreciate you voicing your thoughts here.
