Love this perspective. I've been thinking a lot lately about how life (and productivity / ambition) in its natural form is more of cycle of pulses. Strive; rest. Grow; pause. Etc. Thanks for the permission slip to pause ambition, even if it means there's a bit of "couch slumping". (PS; I'm in the middle of reading your book now!)
yes yes! This is absolutely it. It's *part* of the cycle. Another way to think of it is diastole and systole -- here's a great piece from a physician friend of mine Dr. Colleen Farrell (adding it to the reading list inside the post now too): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dE7CQPV4016PCsJecEN7vDucF9ugho9N/view
I was just discussing this yesterday with my agent. I've been buried--- absolutely buried with family care as well as my own work, and I have fibromyalgia and CFS. If I have one more of my author friends send me a text message check in asking if I have written at least 750-1500 words each day this week, I'm going to lose it. If I could live with the able body and plentiful help I had 20 years ago, that would be one thing. My circumstances today have drastically shifted, and I am a caregiver for my father, a divorced mom of two, a writer, and I'm not working with an able/energetic body. Thank you a million times for addressing the topics that really need to be addressed. Sending best wishes. 💙
Beautiful read, I love the idea of the boundary being The Pause! So commonly boundaries are considered to be the nos and looked at so negatively. The if to when pívot is a wonderful notion. Currently between my puddle and defining/understanding my marathon phases.
I am in the thick of this. I feel like a gear that is overheating because I keep forcing the issue of being a prolific creative. My ambitions that relate to creating are not lining up with my values. I needed that. Thank you 🙏🏽
yes the values piece is so critical. relates to the *how* -- what we embody when we are moving toward the goals. thank you for reading and taking time to engage here.
Oof! I am generally pretty good with boundaries and definitely see my career as a marathon (as in, it’s cool, I’ll still be working for another 35 years, plenty of time for that when my children are grown) but reading this made me realised that my ambitions for my relationship are in a hurry, and all that pressure is hurting rather than helping. I need to see the 35 year arc of my marriage too - we’ll get there xx Thanks!
I think all the time we need to integrate information and gestate ideas is completely ignored now in favour of constant striving and pushing. We are being stressed into believing everything has to be immediate. I was really interested in your take on this. Thank you.

Add this to my "to read" list!
So many favorite names here! Jessica DeFino, Virginia Sole-Smith, Sara Petersen, Shannon Watts - love to see it.
♥️
Rest is sooooo important. And we have a lot of conditioning to undo
